Both approaches have their supporters and detractors. For many people, it’s important that in everything they do, they’re independent and self reliant. For the vast majority of people, the second approach is by far the best one to take. Think about it – if you’re just starting out lifting weights, just how much do you know about designing an effective weight lifting program? You’re no expert, and it will be a long time before you’re ever close to being an expert. Why tackle a job you’re unqualified for? It makes far more sense to find an effective weight lifting program, one that’s worked for thousands of people, and follow it. That’s your best bet for success in weight lifting.
